Louise Mackenzie
Co-founder of Alive Together & Artist
Louise Mackenzie is co-founder of ALIVE TOGETHER and the artist member of the team.
Louise Mackenzie is an artist, curator and researcher working across contemporary visual art, new media art and sound. Her research explores human relationships to the nonhuman world through process-based and participatory art practice. In addition to making film, installation and audio works, she develops and runs participatory workshops and events across institutional and public settings. She is a member of the Cultural Negotiation of Science research group, Northumbria University, an Associate of the Institute of Genetic Medicine, Newcastle University and holds a PhD in Fine Art from BxNU Institute of Contemporary Art. She has spoken and exhibited nationally and internationally, including Pomona Museum of Art, California (USA), National Library of Spain, Madrid (Spain), BALTIC, Newcastle (UK), Charles Darwin House, London (UK), Basement 6 Collective, Shanghai (China), Summerhall, Edinburgh (UK) and Lumiere Durham (UK).
Anna Olsson
Co-founder of Alive Together & Animal Welfare Scientist
Anna Olsson is co-founder of ALIVE TOGETHER and is the scientist member of the team.
Anna Olsson is an animal welfare scientist with a farm animal background, now working in a biomedical research institute. Her own research is focused on behaviour of laboratory rodents and companion animals, and on ethical issues in the use of animals in research and biotechnology. She is also involved in strategic initiatives to Replace, Reduce and Refine research with animals. She leads a research group and organizes training to prepare scientists for a responsible use of animals in experiments. She is a Trustee for Universities Federation of Animal Welfare. She is a co-author of the textbooks Animal Ethics in Animal Research (Cambridge University Press) and Animal Welfare (CABI).

Maria Manuela Lopes
i3S Communication Unit | Artist
Maria Manuela Lopes is a visual artist with a transdisciplinary practice, is a researcher at i3S as co-responsible for the Cultural Outreach Art/Science interface of the Institution. She did an MA at Goldsmiths College London.
She has a Doctorate in Fine Arts New Media University of Brighton and UCA-Farnham. Postdoctoral Art Research Project at ID+and i3S. Dean of The Arts and Multimedia Department of ISCE Douro and co-founder and Deputy Director artistic residency programs: Ectopia: Laboratory of Artistic Experimentation and Cultivamos Cultura. She is also director of an International Music and Arts Academy (A2DV).
Maria Rui Correia
i3S Communication Unit | PhD in Science Education
Maria Rui Correia Biologist, PhD in Didactics/Teachers Training Higher Education. Was Assistant Professor in Didactics of Biology Teaching at the Faculty of Sciences of the UPorto (1981-2003).
She has a vast experience in teachers training, in producing learning materials and activities for university and secondary students, as well as in qualitative methodologies and studies. She is/was a member of science in society projects.
Currently, she is a collaborator at i3S as co-responsible for the Cultural Outreach Art/Science interface of the Institution; and member of Accreditation Commission at the “Escola Superior de Artes e Design – Matosinhos” and responsible for the quality evaluation of the Art and Design Courses of ESAD.
Polona Tratnik
PhD in Philosophy, ALMA MATER EUROPAEA
Polona Tratnik (born in 1976), PhD in Philosophy, is full Professor and the Dean of the Faculty for Slovene and International Studies of New University in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She is a Research Advisor at Institute IRRIS for Research, Development and Strategies of Society, Culture and Environment. She was a Fulbright visiting scholar and guest professor in the USA, China, Finland, and Mexico. She is the president of the Slovenian Society of Aesthetics, and an executive committee member of the International Association of Aesthetics. She has authored 8 books, among them: Umetnost u savremenosti (Belgrade: Orion, 2018), Conquest of Body. Biopower with Biotechnology (Cham: Springer, 2017), Hacer-vivir más allá del cuerpo y del medio (Mexico City: Herder, 2013), Konec umetnosti – genealogija modernega diskurza: od Hegla k Dantu (Koper: Annales, 2008).
